FAQ
How does the Oral Genome saliva testing work?
Step 1: Collect your saliva sample in the morning.
Step 2: Place your sample in the designated area of the test.
Step 3: The test kit uses nano-bead antibody conjugates that bind to the antigens in your saliva, causing a color change.
Step 4: Take a photo of your test using the color-calibrated card. Oral Genome uses proprietary technology to match the colors produced by the reaction and how light travels through them to measure the levels of each antigen in your sample.
Step 5: The app will return with your measurements and help you interpret what those levels mean for your wellness.
What biomarkers does Oral Genome analyze, and how do they correlate with health?
Oral Genome analyzes key biomarkers in your saliva that offer a real-time look at your oral and overall health. These include:
Salivary pH & buffering capacity – These are indicators of your mouth’s oral hygiene. Maintaining healthy levels here helps maintain healthy teeth and gums.
Porphyromonas Gingivalis (Pg) – Pg is a key indicator of whether you are maintaining good oral hygiene practices.
Matrix Metalloproteinase-8 (MMP-8) – MMP-8 levels can indicate that your oral care routine is leading to optimal gum health.
Nitric Oxide – Nitric oxide supports blood flow. Maintaining high levels can signal a healthy oral microbiome.
Glucose levels – Your glucose levels offer insight into dietary patterns and overall well-being.
Salivary proteins – Reflecting immune function and oral microbiome balance.
By analyzing these markers, Oral Genome helps you take a data-driven approach to oral health—one that connects to longevity and wellness.

How does Oral Genome compare to traditional dental exams and blood tests?
Traditional dental exams and blood tests provide important check-ins, but they don’t always offer proactive, data-driven insights about your oral health and wellness.
Oral Genome saliva test doesn’t replace visits to your care team, but it is another tool in your wellness stack. Testing your saliva at home gives you personalized, science-backed information between visits—helping you stay ahead of potential issues.
With this data in hand, you can go into your next dental or medical appointment with specific, informed questions, optimizing your time with your healthcare team in-office.
How long does it take to get results from the at-home saliva test?
You can expect to receive your saliva test results in just 15 minutes, providing quick and accurate insights into your oral health and overall wellness.
Can I track changes over time with the saliva test? How often should I retest?
Yes! We recommend testing every six months. Subtle changes in your biomarkers can signal when it’s time to adjust your routine or check in with your clinician. When it comes to your oral health, it’s more than just brushing and flossing™.
Is My data secure with Oral Genome? How is my health data stored?
At Oral Genome, we prioritize healthcare data security and comply with all relevant data protection regulations, including HIPAA, to ensure your information remains safe.
Your health data is securely stored on protected servers and is accessible only to authorized personnel, held to the highest standards of confidentiality.
Rest assured, maintaining your privacy is our top priority.
Can I delete my data from Oral Genome if I choose to?
Yes. You can request your data be deleted by contacting us.
Is Oral Genome’s saliva test kit covered by FSA/HSA?
Not at this time, but your wellness is worth the investment.
Will it save me money on dental care long-term by preventing issues early?
Yes! Oral Genome can help you take preventive action before small issues become expensive or painful dental procedures.
Proactive adjustments to your routine and care plan can reduce the need for costly treatments – like fillings, perioral cleanings, or gum surgery – in the future. Think of it as an investment in long-term health.
